The Cypher Effect comes through with the latest installation of its freestyle sessions, this time featuring verses from Shaxe Oriah, Babydownn, R-Cade, Slo Mo, Mush Mouf, Fatcat, Kahlee and Uptown Swuite spitting over an Off-Balance instrumental. The second video is a Mic Check session for NoEarth, who performs his track "Lift Me Up" off of his upcoming "Hunter Erf Thompson" album.
Boston hip-hop artist Daniel "EK" Ibeh comes through with his latest track "Nightmares of the Kennedys", which is a promo track for his upcoming "Hands Of Time" EP. The song is described as an "abstract walk through African American reality" and is produced by Bueffard Mallary. Dope shit. Peep it below.
Alabama emcee Londn Blue is back yet again, this time with a laid back cut named "Stars". The song is real nice and features Londn spitting some honest and personal rhymes over an atmospheric self-produced instrumental. The verse on this was song originally going to end up on the "Intro" to his upcoming "False Hope" album, but it ended up not making the final cut. "False Hope" is set to drop later this summer.
"Backpack Travels" is a collaborative album between Boot Camp Clik / Black Moon emcee Buckshot and New Zealand based hip-hop producer P-Money. The album features guest appearances from Steele (of Smif-N-Wessun), Joey Bada$$, CJ Fly, Raz Fresco and others and is fully produced by P-Money himself. It was released on June 24, 2014 via Dirty Records / Dawn Raid Records / Duck Down Music.
"Dephacation" is a collaborative album between Newport News, VA emcees Awon and Dephlow and Portland hip-hop producer Phoniks. The album features a guest appearance from Tiff The Gift as well as production from F Draper, but mostly the entire project is produced by Phoniks himself. It was released on May 6, 2014 via Sergent Records.
Indiana hip-hop artist Merc Versus returns with the latest single from his upcoming "Magnetic" album. The song is called "This World Don't Love Me" and features Merc teaming up with T.J. Hooks over a dope instrumental by Trilian. "This World Don't Love Me" is the third release from "Magnetic", following up the Blue Sky Black Death produced "The Program" that dropped a few weeks back.
C.Shreve the Professor is gearing up to release his "Summer Ransom" album on July 7th and recently dropped a new video for the title track off of the project. The song is produced by UK hip-hop producer Handbook and it has a nice laidback feel to it, with C.Shreve trying to have the summer on lock while flowing smoothly over the beat. Dope shit. Fredericksburg, VA emcee 7th Chakra just dropped his latest track, "Free Me", and its real dope. The song features the 18 year old hip-hop artist teaming up with North Carolina spitter Supastition as both emcees kick some inspirational rhymes over a beautiful instrumental that should definitely get you nodding your head. "These Days..." is third studio album from TDE hip-hop artist Ab-Soul. The album features guest appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, SZA , Lupe Fiasco and others as well as production from Purity Ring, Tae Beast, Sounwave, J. Cole and others. It was released on June 24, 2014 via Top Dawg Entertainment.
Hip-hop trio Injury Reserve (consisting of emcees Ritchie with a T and Stepa J Groggs along with producer Parker Corey) come through with their debut EP, "Cooler Colors." I gave the project a good listen today and it's really dope, with Ritchie with a T and Stepa J Groggs rapping about a variety of topics over a handful of relatively mellow instrumentals. "Beast Academy" is the latest full length album from NYC hip-hop artist El Gant. The album features guest appearances from Torae, El Da Sensei, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Ill Bill and others and is fully produced by JOAT (Jack Of All Trades). It was released on June 10, 2014 via Diamond Media 360 / Rule By Secrecy.
"1200 B.C." is a collaborative EP between Brownsville emcee Ka and hip-hop producer Preservation. The album features a guest appearance from Roc Marciano and is fully produced by Preservation himself. I'm not sure on the exact release date, but I know it was made available for order over on Ka's website just a few days back.
"Barrel Brothers" is the first collaborative album between Brooklyn hip-hop artists Skyzoo and Torae. The album features guest appearances from Sean Price, Guilty Simpson, Sha Stimuli, Blu and others as well as production from Illmind, Black Milk, DJ Premier, Oh No and others. It was released on May 27, 2014 via First Generation Rich Inc / Internal Affairs Ent / Loyalty Digital Corp / EMPIRE Recordings.
Queens emcee Paranormal just dropped some visuals for the first single and title track from his album "Vendetta Doctrine", which dropped back in 2013. The song is real dope and features Paranormal spitting some politically charged rhymes (similar in style to NY hip-hop artist Immortal Technique or UK wordsmith Apex Zero) over a hard ass instrumental. DJ Tekwun teams up with Pudgee tha Phat Bastard and ERox (of Gravity Movement) for the first single from his upcoming album "Cassette Music." The song is called "Pay Attention" and it's banging, with everyone on here just ripping a head nodding boom-bap instrumental. "Cassette Music" is set to feature hip-hop legends Sadat X and Ed O.G. as well as others and should be dropping in the near future. For now, peep the video above.
Wu-Tang Clan's Raekwon the Chef just dropped a new track over on the IceH20 Soundcloud page. The song is called "Wishing On A Star" and is the first in a series of throwback songs that Rae will be dropping every week up until the release of his "F.I.L.A." album. Peep it below.
"Try Again" is the latest EP from New Jersey emcee El Da Sensei (who is one half of the legendary hip-hop crew The Artifacts for those that don't know). El holds the entire EP down solo vocally, but the project does feature production from Joc Max, D Smooth and House Shoes as well as some scratches by Damu The Fudgemunk. It was released on June 10, 2014 via Redefinition Records.
"G.T.F.O.M.Y." is the debut solo album from Dirt Platoon emcee and Baltimore hip-hop artist Raf Almighty. The album features guest appearances from Snook Da Crook, Wyld Bunch, Skanks, Fel Sweetenberg and others as well as production from Mil, Sir Williams (from Union Blak) and Fel Sweetenberg, but mostly all production is handled by DJ Brans (who is a hip-hop producer out of France). "G.T.F.O.M.Y." was released on June 9, 2014 via the Effiscienz label.
So this is kind of interesting. There is an EP currently circulating around the internet by an artist named Your Old Droog that sound suspiciously like hip-hop legend Nas. No really. Listen for yourself. The EP features Your Old Droog rapping over some dope instrumentals by El RTNC, DJ Skizz and Droog himself, but its the vocals that are the real star of the show here. There is discussion on a few hip-hop forums (such as /r/hiphopheads over on Reddit as well as on TheColi) debating if this is actually Nas or not. My thoughts? If he isn't Nas, then he is really good at impersonating him. Post your thoughts below.
Hip-hop duo The Horror Show (consisting of emcees/producers Decibel Grand and JonCozy) is back, this time with some visuals for their track "The Ludovico Treatment." The song is dope and features both Decibel and JonCozy rapping about their feelings on society over a real dark JonCozy production. "The Ludovico Treament" is a track off of The Horror Show's debut album, "Viddy The Horror Show", which you can cop now over on iTunes.
Brooklyn hip-hop artist Sim-E comes through with the first single from his upcoming "Sim-City" project, which is his second release and his first solo LP. The track is called "Sole Progression" and it's fire, featuring Sim-E sharing the mic with hip-hop veteran Roc Marciano over a crazy instrumental thats definitely got me nodding my head. "Sim-City" is set to drop in July of 2014 and will feature guest appearances from Roc Marciano, Smif-N-Wessun, Prince Po, Planet Asia, Chance Infinite, Strong Arm Steady, and others. Abstract Rude stopped by The Cypher Effect and performed a mix of songs as part of his Mic Check session. The first song is called "World With No Music", which is a cut off of Infinite Wizdom's "Herb & Legendz" album. Next up is "Just Do It", which is actually a Namek song that features Abstract Rude and is off of his "Desiny" LP. The final song is "Optical Conclusions", which is a cut by The Cloaks (Awol One and Gel Roc) that features Abstract and is off of their "The Cloaks" project. "Timing is Everything" is the debut album from Detroit hip-hop artist Kid Vishis. The album features a guest appearance from Royce da 5'9'' (who is Kid Vishis' older brother) as well as production from Mr Porter, Chase Moore, Nick Zervos and Nemisis. It is set to be released on July 22, 2014 via Seven 13 Entertainment.
Fab Soares returns with another hot track, this time featuring the London based hip-hop artist spitting some reflective rhymes over a crazy Canis Major production. The track is called "Nostalgia" and it's real ill, with Fab Soares flowing effortlessly over the dreamy flute instrumental. I'm not exactly sure where this one is going to end up, but it's real nice so don't sleep. Peep it below.
"Ice Cold" is the lead single from an upcoming collaboration album between Wisconsin emcee Taiyamo Denku and Australian hip-hop producer Dcypha titled "SUPERNATURAL". The single is real nice and features Taiyamo sharing the mic with legendary Queens emcee Kool G Rap and Jedi Mind Tricks / Army of the Pharoahs rapper Vinnie Paz over a darker Dcypha instrumental. "SUPERNATURAL" is set to drop on June 25, 2014 and will feature appearances from hip-hop veterans such as KRS One, Sadat X, Tragedy Khadafi and many others. In the meantime, peep the single below.
"Keep It Live" is the first single from the upcoming collaborative EP between The Real Life Click (Ang P and MIZ) and hip-hop producer Know Life. The song is definitely a banger and has Ang P and MIZ teaming up with JAMLA emcee Add-2 as all three rappers spit fire over a head nodding instrumental by Know Life. Top it all off with DJ Absurd's ill scratching on the hook and you've got a winner. "Keep It Live" will appear on Real Life Click's "SANGVIS REGVM: Blood of Kings" EP, which hopefully drops sometime soon. Peep the track below.
Philadelphia based hip-hop artist Tayyib Ali recently signed with All Def Music and decided to drop some visuals for his track "Do It (High School Dropout)" just a few days back. The song is real dope and features Tayyib rhyming about his career in the rap industry leading up to this point as well as about what he has planned for the future over a soulful Teddy Roxpin instrumental. Queens emcee Apani B Fly comes through with her latest banger, "Number 1 Sound", which is produced by legendary hip-hop producer DJ Spinna. The song is definitely dope and follows up the video Apani recently released with the Jazz Spastiks for their track "Move". Check back later this month when the video for "Number 1 Sound" drops. The Jazz Jousters is a hip-hop production collective who came together and dropped an instrumental album, titled "Diggin Deep", just last month. The album is a tribute to the legendary pianist John Hicks (of the Jazz Messengers) and it's fire the whole way through, with the project featuring a variety of head nodding boom-bap instrumentals centered around the works of John Hicks. "Diggin Deep" features production from Oldy Clap Recordz, Es-K, B3NBi and many others. Peep it below.
Abstract Rude comes through with the second single from his upcoming "Keep The Feel: A Legacy Of Hip Hop Soul" LP, following up last months "Kan Of Whoop Ass". The single is called "I Lived In A Time" and features the Rhymesayers emcee rapping about being a veteran in this hip-hop shit over a crazy DJ Remode instrumental that flips the same sample that Dan the Automator used in Deltron's "Turbulence" track. Very dope song.
Wu-Tang Clan's Cappadonna dropped a video a few days back for the second single off of his upcoming "Hook Off" album and it's pretty dope. The song is called "Vegan" and features Cappa sharing the mic with Turnkpike Ike and Amar Divine over an instrumental by Virginia based hip-hop producer J Clyde. I'm not really feelin' the beat too much (maybe it will grow on me), but the rhymes sound pretty good over it.
Costin Thampikutty is a hip-hop artist coming out of The Bronx who just dropped his mixtape, "Rough Draft", a few days back. The project is pretty ill and features Costin spitting some introspective rhymes over a variety of instrumentals. Royce da 5'9"s little brother Kid Vishis just dropped some visuals for his track "Talk Behind My Back", which is the first official video from his upcoming debut album "Timing is Everything." The song is pretty dope and features the Detroit based hip-hop artist addressing the haters over a very energetic Chase Moore instrumental. "Timing is Everything" will feature production from Shady's Mr. Porter, Australia's Chase Moore of the Californian production duo Hippie Sabotage, New Jersey's Nemisis as well as Canadian Nick Zervos and is set to drop on July 22nd through Seven 13 Entertainment.
DJ Premier comes through with the fourth session of his "Bars In The Booth" web series and it's just as dope as the others. This session features hip-hop legend A.G. (of D.I.T.C. and 'Showbiz & A.G.') ripping a head nodding Primo production. Spok Beats is a hip-hop producer coming out of Southern Cali who recently released his instrumental album, "Lions9", back on May 24th and it's real dope. The album features a variety of instrumentals, from gritty boom-bap bangers to more jazzy productions and everything in between. In fact, Spok Beats describes the project as an "album that ranges from hip hop to dub and a lot of live instruments." If you are looking for some ill hip-hop production with some experimental sounds thrown in, make sure you peep the album below.

"How Bout You" will appear on the groups "The Cooler Colors EP", which is set to drop on June 18.
Willie the Kid links up with S-Class Sonny and Boldy James over a breezy Rax Beatz instrumental that sounds similar in vibe to some of the tracks off of the Michigan based hip-hop artists stellar "Aquamarine" project. I'm not sure where this one is going to end up, but the track is real dope and has me hoping he will be announcing a new project soon. In the meantime, make sure to check out some of Willie's other recent projects ("Aquamarine" and "The Living Daylights), both of which are straight fire.
Bronx, NY hip-hop artist YC the Cynic comes through with some visuals for his track "Night Thoughts", which is a cut that was originally set to be featured on his "Good Morning, Midnight" project that dropped back in 2012. The video is pretty crazy, with YC spitting rhymes over a darker Yuri Beats instrumental while a girl is stalked in her home by demons. Canibus just dropped the latest single from his upcoming "Fait Accompli" album in the form of the track "Historic." The song is notable as being the first new Four Horsemen single in quite a while, with Canibus teaming up with West Coast hip-hop veterans Kurupt and Rass Kass as well as one of my favorite Wu-Tang affiliates Killah Priest. Bis also takes it a step further and adds QB legend Tragedy Khadafi into the mix as all five emcees spit fire over a softer instrumental than I was expecting, but it's still dope. "Fait Accompli" is set to drop on June 10, 2014 and is currently available for preorder over on Amazon and iTunes.
D.I.T.C. member and legendary hip-hop producer Diamond D comes through with a remix of Blu & Nottz' 2013 banger "Boyz II Men", which features Nitty Scott, MC. The track is featured on the iTunes Deluxe Edition of Coalmine Records' ten year anniversary compilation "Unearthed" in addition to the CD and vinyl edition of Blu & Nottz' "Gods in the Spirit" EP, which dropped back in 2013.
23-year old UK hip-hop artist Coops just dropped his heavily anticipated "Lost Souls" mixtape yesterday and follows it up today with some visuals for the cut "So Cold." The song showcases the darker sound of the mixtape nicely, with Coops teaming up with North London emcee Benny Banks and vocalist Sophie Faith over a gritty hip-hop banger that is one of my favorites on the album. If you are feelin' the video, make sure you check out the full "Lost Souls" project as well.
P.A.T. Junior is a hip-hop artist hailing from Raleigh, NC that just came through with the second installment from his "Just Because" single series, this one being titled "Just Because (Deux)." The track is real nice and features P.A.T. spitting some honest rhymes over a smooth Metronomiks instrumental while Oceanside, CA singer ABIV provides the hook. Check it below.
Fel Sweetenberg just dropped some visuals for his track "The End Of The Book" a few days ago, with the track being one of my favorites off of his "The Invisible Garden" album. The song features Fel teaming up with Baltimore hip-hop duo Dirt Platoon over an ill DJ Brans instrumental with cuts by Dj Djaz. "The Invisible Garden" dropped back in April and is available for stream below. Make sure you check it out if you get a chance.
"Animal Ambition: An Untamed Desire To Win" is the fifth studio album by Queens hip-hop artist 50 Cent. The album features guest appearances from Jadakiss, Prodigy, Styles P, Trey Songz and others as well as production from Dr. Dre, Jake One, Frank Dukes and others. It was released on June 3, 2014 via G-Unit Records, Caroline Records and Capitol Records.
JusTalu is a hip-hop artist coming out of Germantown, MD that dropped a dope EP entitled "In My Mind" just a few days ago. The EP features guest appearances from Dtektt and El Ay as well as production from Dtektt, Kelly Portis, 3point and others. I gave it a good listen today and its real nice, with JusTalu spitting fire over a variety of head nodding instrumentals with a sort of modernized boom-bap feel. Peep it below.
Jason Anthony (formerly Jay Sinificance) just dropped the first single from a remix series that he is beginning in preparation for his upcoming mixtape, "#StuffedPapayas." The song is a reworking of PartyNextDoor's track "Wus Good / Curious" and sets the tone of the project, which will be a mix of hip-hop, EDM and experimental music. Check it out below.
