OSHUN (comprised of NYU vocalists Niambi Sala and Thandiwe) recently dropped another video from their crazy "AFAHYE" EP that dropped back in March. The song is for the track "#", which finds the duo spitting some socially conscious rhymes about police brutality over A Tribe Called Quests's "Midnight" instrumental. "AFAHYE" features instrumentals from Tribe Called Quest, J. Dilla and MF DOOM and is available to stream below.

New Jersey rapper Manni Festo just released some visuals for his track "Free", which is a cut off of his "Abstract Island" album that dropped back in April. The song is dope and finds Manni Festo rhyming about the freedom of being independent over a guitar-based instrumental. Peep the video, as well as the full album, below.





Stará Kazka - Brain Chain EP (Instrumental Album)



Ukrainian hip-hop producer Stará Kazka comes through with his debut release "Brain Chain EP", which was released a few days back on Millenium Jazz Music. The project is dope, featuring five head nodding instrumentals centered around funk and jazz that ended up getting a lot of play from me this holiday week. Peep it below.

Eloh Kush comes through with his latest track, "Initiatez", which features the Angelz Inc. emcee linking up with Scienz of Life (John Robinson and ID 4 Windz) over a head nodding ID 4 Windz banger. The beat is fire, with an ethereal, spaced out sample over boom-bap drums, and all three emcees kill it with their rhymes. Don't sleep. Peep it below.

Boston rapper Peezy returns with another dope release, this time with his latest project "Head In The Clouds". I gave the album a few listens this weekend and it's real nice, with Peezy kicking some personal rhymes about the ups and downs of his life over beautiful, boom-bap production. The album, which you can stream below, features guest appearances from Chin, Phacade and El Ay and is available over on Peezy's Bandcamp site as a free download.



The Best Rap Albums of 2014


So 2014 is just about over and I just wanted to take the time to share some of my favorite hip-hop albums that have dropped this year. Here are my top 25 rap albums of 2014, in alphabetical order.

Gemstarr Regime producer BP comes through with another unreleased exclusive, this time with a remix for the track "Historic". The original version of this cut was one of the standout tracks from Canibus' last album "Fait Accompli", but I'm actually diggin the beat on this BP remix more than the original version. Newport News, VA rapper Awon just dropped another album back on December 8, 2014 and it's a banger. The project is called "Matte Black Soul" and finds Awon touching on a variety of topics over smooth soul samples with production from Phoniks, Rashard, Ak, HDK as well as from Awon himself. The album was released as a "name your price" release over on Don't Sleep Records' bandcamp site and is available for stream/purchase via the link below. This shit is real dope and is yet another outstanding release from Awon.

ChillxWill is an emcee hailing from Tacoma, Washington who just released some visuals for his track "Warning (MPadrum'$ Remix)", which is a cut off of his upcoming album "Almighty". The song is definitely a banger and features the BKR$CLB member spitting some ill bars over a crazy MPadrum's instrumental that sounds like it came straight out of the 90's. I'm feelin' the fuck out of this track and am definitely looking forward to the full "Almighty" album, which will be dropping February 3rd on Ill Adrenaline Records. Don't sleep on this one folks. It was released on December 9, 2014 via PRhyme Records.

"2014 Forest Hills Drive" is the latest album from Fayetteville, North Carolina rapper J. Cole. The album features no guest appearances, but does feature production from !llmind, Willie B., Vinylz, Phonix Beats and others with many songs being produced by J. Cole himself. It was released on December 9, 2014 via Roc Nation LLC.

 Austrian hip-hop producer Flip just dropped a video for the first single from his upcoming album "Reflections" and it's real dope. The song is called "Dreaming" and features none other than legendary DITC rapper AG kicking some thoughtful rhymes over the dreamy instrumental by Flip. "Reflections" is set to drop on February 17th via Ill Adrenaline Records and will feature guest appearances from Elzhi, Phat Kat, EDO. G, Killah Priest, Guilty Simpson, Kev Brown, LMNO, Tragic Allies, and many more.

Reverie comes through with some visuals for her track "Reflections", which features the Los Angeles emcee linking up with HideAndSeekZoo over a head nodding Infameezy produced instrumental. "FarmFoodz" is the debut solo album from The Three Headed Beast emcee Twizzy. The album features guest appearances from M.A.B., Jinxsxta JX, Genesis Elijah, Verb T and Farma G and is fully produced by Farma G himself. It was released on November 28, 2014 via De Facto Entertainment.

"36 Seasons" is the latest album from hip-hop legend and Wu-Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah. The album features guest appearances from Kool G Rap, AZ, Pharoahe Monch, Shawn Wigs and others as well as production from Fizzy Womack (aka Lil' Fame of M.O.P.), The 45 King and Malik Abdul-Rahmaan, but mostly all production is handled by Brooklyn production team/band The Revelations. It is set to be released on December 9, 2014 via Salvation Music, Inc./Tommy Boy Entertainment, LLC.

"A Better Tomorrow" is the sixth studio album from legendary hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan. The album features guest appearances from Streetlife and Nathaniel as well as production from 4th Disciple, Mathematics, Adrian Younge and Rick Rubin, but most of the tracks are produced by RZA himself. It is set to be released on December 2, 2014 via Warner Bros. Records.

Wu-Tang affiliate Bronze Nazareth comes through with the third release in his "Thought for Food" series of albums and it's quite dope. The album features guest appearances from Willie The Kid (who released a stellar collaboration album with Bronze earlier this year), Lord Jessiah as well as The Wisemen. The project is a first of what seems to be a flood of releases from Wu-Tang here in the later half of 2014, with Wu-Tang Clans "A Better Tomorrow" dropping on December 2nd and Ghostface Killah's "36 Seasons" dropping on December 9th.  London-based producer Telemachus is gearing up to release his latest album, "In Morocco", on December 8, 2014 and just dropped some visuals for his track "Locust". The instrumental is quite different than the norm, with Telemachus stepping away from his hip-hop roots and blending electronic sounds with the more earthy sounds of Morocco itself. The end result is very different than what I'm used to, but it actually works quite well. Peep it below.

New Jersey rapper uMaNg and Swedish hip-hop producer B.B.Z. Darney celebrate the release of their "The Black Rose Certificate" album with some visuals for the second single from the album. The song is called "Correct Techniques" are it's really dope, with uMaNg showing off his mic skills over a laid-back B.B.Z. Darney production. "The Black Rose Certificate" dropped today via Ill Adrenaline Records and features guest appearances from Beneficence, Purpose (of Tragic Allies), HexOne and Tek-nition (Epidemic) and Hashfinger and is fully produced by B.B.Z. "Dreams & Reality" is the latest collaborative EP from Chicago born emcee MKV and New Zealand producer Concept, following up last years extremely dope "When the Pieces Come Together". The EP is really nice, with MKV spitting a ton of personal and positive rhymes over some absolutely beautiful production from Concept that kept my head nodding the entire time. North Carolina rapper C.Shreve The Professor just dropped another video off of his dope "Summer Ransom" album that came out back in August. The visuals are for the track "Crews' Corpses", which is produced by Whokairs? and features guest appearances from Free The Optimus members Mike L!VE and DJ Jet in addition to Raleigh emcee Jrusalam. Marchitect (from the hip-hop group The 49ers) just released a video from his upcoming album "The Overnight People" in the form of the track "Everything". The song has a sort of playful vibe to it, with the Delaware rapper rhyming over a carefree self-produced instrumental. The video itself is also pretty dope, with the visuals being comprised of footage shot in the different cities Marchitect toured in this year. Nice.



Garcia's Grooves - Message In The Music (Instrumental Album)


Millennium Jazz Music (home of The Jazz Jousters) just released another instrumental project back in October and it's real smooth. The album is called "Message In The Music" and is from South Florida hip-hop producer Garcia's Grooves, who uses this project to push the idea of "Knowledge is Power". Dope shit. Peep it below.

Cincinnati rapper Buggs tha Rocka recently dropped some visuals for his track "Angel of Death", which is a cut off of his upcoming album "Scattered Thoughts of an American Poet". The song is real nice and features both Buggs tha Rocka and guest Piakhan doing their thing over a bouncy piano instrumental from Hop Trax. "Scattered Thoughts of an American Poet" is set to drop on December 10, 2014 and features production from Sal Dali, !llmind and Jake One as well as guest appearances from Tanya Morgan, Chuck Inglish and MOOD. Wu-Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah just dropped the first single from his upcoming solo album "36 Seasons". The song is called "Love Don't Live Here No More" and finds Ghost kicking some rhymes about a woman who did him wrong over a soulful instrumental from The Revelations. "36 Seasons" is set to drop on December 9, 2014 and is fully produced by The Revelations, who contributed a bunch of tracks to Wu-Tang's "Chamber Music" project.  Boston rapper Stiz Grimey comes through just in time for Halloween with some visuals for his track "Lizzie Borden". The song finds Stiz Grimy telling the haunting story of Lizzie Borden, a young woman who was tried and acquitted for murdering her father and stepmother with an axe in Fall River, MA back in 1892. The story hits kind of close to home for Stiz, who lives nearby to where the murders happened all those years ago. Peep the video below.

Veteran New York emcee J-Live is back again, this time with his latest single "I Am A Man (American Justice)". The song finds J-Live rapping about the "consistent tragedies and travesties of justice concerning Black men, women, children and the police" over an ill self-produced instrumental. Peep it below.

Kentucky rapper Allen Poe just dropped his latest album, "How Gardens Grow", over on his Bandcamp page and it's real dope. The project features rhymes from Denmark Vessey (on the track "Lookin For Sumthin") as well as production from Cookin Soul, Amerigo Gazaway, Nemo Achida and others. According to Allen Poe himself, the album "plays a lot on nature metaphors to illustrate the growth we go through as people from the different experiences we typically encounter between our 20's through our early 30's". I gave it a good listen earlier and it's real ill, so don't sleep.
